APPLES!  APPLES! APPLES!

Then we all tasted it! YUM!
Then we used tally marks to answer the question
Did you like applesauce?
Applesauce!   We made applesauce today!  YUM!!  First we used the apple pealer, corer, slicer and cut up the apples.  The kids had fun taking turns turning it!
We cooked them all day!

My label anchor chart!
We talked about why it is important to write!  I love that one student said to "learn about each other". So cute!

If you don't do this, you should!  It helps.  My kids tell me all the time, "Look, I don't have any white spaces!"

Labels, Labels, Labels

We Love LABELS!  Kids love to put a label on things.  The feel a sense of accomplishment by writing those small words of things they know!  SO to begin our label unit we labeled the teacher!  If you haven't done this, I highly recommended it.  We took post it notes and brainstormed all my body parts. We wrote one body part on each post it note. I put them all over the board.  One at a time I had the kids come up and put the label on me in the correct spot.  The kids thought it was hilarious to see me with labels on my head, nose, feet, and back!  You must do this if you haven't. It really makes labeling concrete for them.

Writing......

When You're Done, You've just begun!

I was tired of hearing the kids say "I'm done!" five minutes into their 45 minutes of writing.  So I created this poster to help them think through the writing process.  They can add to the pictures, add to the words or start a new piece.  I tried to create this visual so that they students would understand and be able to this without ME reminding them.
