April Calendar and a FREEBIE!

So I finally got my April calendar book done!  If you are follower who uses these they are in my TPT store.  Here are a couple of new pages from my calendar book.  I did add the Spanish words to the days of the week page.
Click April Calendar Book to go to my TPT store and get your calendar book. Change you calendar time into fun time!  If you don't have binders to keep them in you could use 3 prong folders. It will transform your calendar time.
We are going to add a little place value into calendar time.  We are going to write the tens and ones and then draw them in the big box.  I'm excited to do this with them.

Here is our Daily Domino page.  I did make an addition and a subtraction page.  We are going to do the addition page and then do subtraction problem with the double dice.  But choose which ones fits your kids needs best. :)

We enjoyed doing write the date last month so we are going to continue it.  The kids really started to catch on to the process of writing the date.  They are getting better everyday.  So I felt that it would be good to practice again.
Here is the Daily Double Dice Roll.  We are going to do it with subtraction.  If you wanted to make it addition just add an extra line to the make it a plus sign before you copy it.

Here is an example of the problem of the day.  I work hard to create these so they are different everyday.  There are a few that I have repeated from last month because my kids need more practice with them. There is a mix of number writing, addition, shapes, subtraction, and story problems.

Of course here are our 10 frames.  My kids really like these too.
And now for your FREEBIE!
During calendar we use our 100 chart and do a random number search everyday.  I have the helper of the day pick a specific color crayon to use.  Then he/she picks a card out of a little bag.  The helper tells everyone the number and then they repeat it.  We talk about how many tens and how many ones.  Then we talk about where it is on the 100 chart.   We find it and color it in on the chart.  We do this for 5 numbers a day.  It's amazing how much it has helped even my lowest students with number recognition.
I made new number cards to use.  Mine we ones I made quick with notecards and a marker.
Here are the number cards. Use them as you wish.  The are bright fun colors for spring.
It's my little Easter gift to you!
Happy Easter!
Have a wonderful holiday break and enjoy time with your family!

WE ARE GOING TO THE ZOO!!

MY SCHOOL WON A FREE TRIP TO THE ZOO!!
In November, we got a letter from the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo that we could do a Read Around the World program.  Our kids were to write down every book they read and the school that read the most would win a FREE trip to the zoo for the whole school!  We worked hard and wrote every book down.  We do Daily 5 at our school so the kids would count every book during Read to Self.  Teachers counted every book they read and everyone got involved.  Every week we showed our total during community. The numbers grew from 2,000 then 6,534 and at the end we were at 32, 543 books!!  YES 200 kids read that many books!  WOW!  The zoo called with the exciting news.  Our principal came in and told me at 2:30 the day before community.  I got to tell every the next morning!  It was so fun!  I kept telling them "I have a secret"  Then I would say "Do you want to know?" of course, everyone yells yes.  But I just said "Not yet." After doing that five times I had to tell them.  There was yelling involved.  They went crazy.  It was so fun to see their faces.  I think some of the teachers were as excited as the kids.  Let's just say there was crying involved.  Well, we are going on April 30th.  The weather should be nicer by then.  I can't wait!  If you haven't been to the Omaha Zoo it is ranked as the second best place to take your family in the country. We are so lucky to have an awesome zoo so close.  If you are ever in the area check it out!  It's AWESOME! I can't wait to go!

So anyway I wanted to do a simple subtraction matching page to go with the book.
I made this quick subtraction matching sheet.

just click on Subtract with Pete's buttons to get your copy of this worksheet.

Here is a subtraction video that I can't stop singing!  My kids love it!

How to make a shower curtain keyboard and play Swat!

Are you in need of a NEW FUN literacy center?
A new way to practice spelling words or sight words?
I have a fun new way to have fun while practicing spelling.
Here is a step by step way of making a shower curtain keyboard or two!
You will need four things:
1.plain shower curtain
2.black thick permanent marker
3. Kleenex box for tracing
4. Fly Swatter
 Easy-peasy!
Just get a plain colored shower curtain.  I just grabbed one from Dollar General for a couple of bucks.  Lay it out and cut it in half horizontally.  You can actually make two keyboards out of one curtain.  I cut the end off where the magnets are so they weren't in the way.  Next lay it out on a flat surface. Lay the Kleenex box down on the shower curtain and trace around it.  10 boxes on the top row, 9 in the middle and 7 on the bottom.  I added an ENTER button on the bottom by tracing a bigger square the size of two boxes.  A little tip start tracing on the bottom of the box and go slow around the corners.

First row done.

A close up of the tracing.

Here it is without the letters. Just look at any keyboard on the computer
and write in the letters in the correct order.

 Here is the finished product.
Now grab a couple of fly swatters.
They have cute flower shaped ones at the dollar store this time of year.
Here is my daughter playing on it! I was just telling her letters and she had fun slapping them.

I created these bug cards.  The kids will pick a card and slap the letters to make the word
Click here to get your bug cards.

I made letter cards for the beginning of the year.
I also have all the Dolch Pre-primer words in the FREEBIE!
There is also a page of blank cards.

.

I make them push enter at the end.  You can put two next to each other and put kids on teams and turn into a race.  It's super fun!  They will love it!

FUN! FUN! FUN!

Subtraction linking cards and a FREEBIE!

Well, we have a SNOW day!!  YAY!  This storm was suppose to produce 1-3 inches instead we got dumped on 7-9 inches of heavy wet snow.  On the bright side it's March and won't be around for long.  It'll be 58 and gone by Friday! Just gave us an extra day to our spring break!  I will take it!
I have been working on Subtraction units!
I made some subtraction linking cards similar to the addition linking cards I made when we were learning addition.  Simply print, laminate, and hole punch the little black dot.  The students use learning links from Learning Resources to make linking chains.  They link the first number then take off the second number to find the answer.  The kids have fun and learn that subtraction is taking away!  Click here to go to my TPT store to buy your own subtraction center!

Here is a FREEBIE!  Click here to go to my TPT store to download the number linking cards. I made these to 30 but added a blank sheet so you could make your own.

Enjoy!

Spring Subtraction

I'm so excited about this unit!  We are going to start subtraction in two weeks and I think these activities are going to be perfect for my kiddos.  It will help them understand that concept that subtraction is taking away!  I just uploaded it to my store so stop by and grab a copy.

The subtraction wheels are a great center activity.  You will need 8 clothespins.  Write one number 1-8 on each clothespins. Subtract the pictures from the number in the middle and put the correct clothespin to make the answer on each.  You use dry eraser makers to cross off each one to help them find the answer.

Subtraction Story problems.  The students draw the picture to solve the story problem.  I included a number line so the students can check their answer using it.  Then students write their equation in the bottom square.  5 of these are included.
These might be my favorite.  Students take each card and write the equation to go with it.  The count all the objects to get the first number then the ones with an x to get the second number.  Then the students count the ones without an x to get the answer.  A fun way to practice subtraction. There are two different ways to record their equations.  There is a recording sheets with all the answers to make checking it quick and easy for you.

Students cross off the second number to find the answer.  There are two pages.
The second one is harder and starts with larger numbers.
And here is a Subtraction Freebie  for you!
Thanks for being a follower!  I'm still working on learning how to do all this blogging and everything.
Enjoy!
Here is a link to my TPT store to buy your own copy of my subtraction unit today.
